About the Blog

The Saffronart blog features timely and engaging videos, reports, interviews, behind-the-scenes images and more from our offices around the world. We hope our regular posts on this blog will offer you new insights into the products we feature in our online auctions, new ideas about collecting, and also a new perspective on Saffronart.

Saffronart, India’s largest auction house, is a high-end platform for the sale of fine art, jewelry, prime property, and rare collectibles ranging from carpets and textiles to watches and classic automobiles.

The company was founded in 2000 as a platform to auction Indian modern and contemporary art online. Since then it has grown to be an international business with locations in Mumbai, London, New York, and New Delhi – and global reach through its popular website http://www.saffronart.com where all of its auctions are held and properties on sale featured. Since its founding Saffronart has become the key resource for research and pricing information for Indian art, in addition to being the arbiter of top quality art, jewelry, collectibles and real estate. Saffronart and its unique business model have also been the subject of a case study at Harvard Business School.

Saffronart has set global benchmarks for online auctions of fine art, jewellery, and collectibles across the globe, and has to its credit the global record for the highest value for a single artwork auctioned over the Internet (US$ 2.2 million for a canvas by Arpita Singh in 2010), and likely global records for mobile commerce in any category including the highest auction bid placed via a mobile app (over US$ 1 million in 2011), and the highest purchase via a mobile app (US$ 235,000 for a single artwork in 2010).

The website http://www.saffronart.com, as the online location for all Saffronart auctions, is central to the services Saffronart provides. Clients may also bid on mobile via Saffronart’s proprietary applications for the iPhone, Blackberry and iPad. Saffronart’s galleries in Mumbai, Delhi and New York, and its offices in London provide access to a substantial range of information and advice. In New York, Saffronart is located at the prestigious Fuller Building; Saffronart London opened on New Bond Street in 2008; and the newest Saffronart gallery opened at the Oberoi Hotel, New Delhi, in 2011.
