An Exhibition of Works by Bhupen Khakhar in London

Elisabetta Marabotto of Saffronart shares a note on the new Bhupen Khakhar exhibition at Grosvenor Gallery

London: Grosvenor Gallery in London is currently hosting “Bhupen Khakhar, Works from a Private British Collection”.

The exhibition includes drawings, watercolours and paintings mainly produced during the late 1970s and early 80s, when Khakhar “overhauled his long-neglected draughtsmanship. For the first time he began to appreciate the ‘sketching’ tradition of Santiniketan artists” (Bhupen Khakhar, Works from a Private British Collection, 2013, p.5).

As well as the artworks on display, the film “Messages from Bhupen Khakhar” directed by Judy Marle will also be screened as part of the exhibition. The film presents a fragment of Khakhar’s life, his opinions about style, good taste and vulgarity, sensuality and eroticism.

Apart from providing insight into a critical period of this modern Indian artist’s life and work, this exhibition also commemorates Bhupen Khakhar ten years after his untimely death.

Below you can find a selection of works from the exhibition, and you can visit the Grosvenor Gallery website to see more.
