What’s on in London?

Medha Kapur of Saffronart shares a note on a new Anish Kapoor exhibition

London: Lisson Gallery recently announced a major exhibition of new works by the cultural icon, Anish Kapoor. The exhibition marks 30 years of Lisson Gallery’s association with the Turner Prize winning artist, and explores Kapoor’s most recent work.

Anish Kapoor is widely regarded as one of the most influential sculptors of his generation. Born in Bombay, he has lived and worked in London since the early 1970s. He first rose to prominence in the 1980s with his brightly coloured, pigment-coated sculptures. In Kapoor’s work, his fascination with darkness and light is apparent; whether in the translucent quality of the resin works, the absorbent nature of the pigment, the radiant glow of alabaster, or the fluid reflections of stainless steel and water. Through this interplay between form and light, Kapoor aspires to evoke sublime experiences, which address primal physical and psychological states.
