ARTtube – A Breakthrough for Fine Art

Medha Kapur shares a note on the launch of ARTtube, a video sharing site for art and design

ArtTubeAmsterdam: Five Dutch and Belgian museums -the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, M HKA in Antwerp, Gemeentemuseum in The Hague, De Pont in Tilburg, and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam – have launched a website called ARTtube, a bilingual video sharing platform  which publishes videos related to art and design. This website includes exceptional interviews with reputable artists and designers, behind-the-scenes looks at artwork restoration and exhibition construction and, of course, artist-made films. This is the first online collaboration between Dutch museums, and is now the largest video-sharing site for art in the Netherlands. The site will continue to grow over the next few years, and the museums hope to attract over half a million viewers per year by 2014. The museums are going to approach the public about ARTtube in a variety of ways including via the website, various social media sites, digital television and screens in public spaces. Through this outreach, the museums hope to fulfill their mission of education, awareness, and accessibility.
